As firm believers in the "queer art of failure" defined by the queer theorist J. Jack Halberstam and the avant-garde tradition of Fluxus, Dada and situationists we made a series of performances that radically refuses mastery and control.
We went on stage and practice a form of street art that we have never ever tried before.
We are the Istanbul Queer Art Collective
We came all the way from Turkey
TO FAIL
We are queer
We are here
And we don’t care that
We WILL fail
We embrace it.
This is called the queer art of failure
Look it up we did not invent it.
Tonight each and everyone of us
Will attempt for the very first time in their life
On this very stage
A form of street art.
We promise we have never ever even tried these out before tonight
We will try and fail infront of you.
And what makes this art you might ask
The fact that we are willing and able
To exhibit our failures
In a global culture
Obsessed with success
And telling us to be ashamed of failure.
Well we have been told over and over again
We should be ashamed of being queer
And guess what
we are not!
We exhibit our queerness with pride
And we shall exhibit our failure here tonight.
